Lift the face and neck deep plane while reducing the submandibular gland
The submandibular gland reduction course by Joe Niamtu combines deep plane face and neck lifting with gland debulking by hemostat, tonsil snare and bipolar hemostasis, digastric contouring, gland-targeted botulinum toxin, SMAS anatomy dissection, consultation, seroma aspiration and consecutive case reviews across 37 chaptered lessons.

The programme
Deep plane technique overview & consultation
Opening modules present an updated masterclass on the approach, a preservation-style facelift with gland reduction and a guided one-sided face and neck lift. Core manoeuvres, the patient consultation and a full-length walkthrough follow in the second module.
Incisions, flap exposure & SMAS anatomy
Short clips show anterior and posterior incision design with scalpel, radiowave spatula and scissors, then exposure of the preauricular flap. Separate lessons dissect skin elevation and SMAS layers and break the deep plane down in real time.
Neck elevation & midline strategy
The neck is treated through a midline plan with central and lateral resection and closure, platysma elevation and a deep plane neck lift. One lesson demonstrates neck elevation that leaves the gland untouched, useful for comparison.
Methods in the submandibular gland reduction course
Several unilateral cases debulk the gland using a hemostat clamp, a tonsil snare with or without capsular suturing, and bipolar hemostasis before capsular closure. Botulinum toxin injected into the gland is also shown as a non-surgical option.
Digastric muscle contouring
A brief accelerated clip and a two-case lesson address reduction of the anterior digastric to refine the submental contour. These segments complement the gland work when the neck still appears full after lifting.
Recovery, seroma care & case outcomes
Lessons on healing and needle aspiration of a postoperative seroma sit beside reviews of 16 and 17 consecutive deep plane patients. A bonus module adds standout cases, including one with a chin implant and one without drains or dressings.
Who it’s for
- Facial plastic surgeons add gland and digastric management to deep plane neck work
- Plastic and cosmetic surgeons study a full deep plane sequence from consultation to recovery
- Oral and maxillofacial surgeons review submandibular anatomy within aesthetic lifting
- Surgical residents follow chaptered, unilateral demonstrations step by step
The consult
Why are some modules so short?
Several gland and digastric clips last only a minute or two, so one module totals about two minutes and another nine; most running time sits in a few longer videos.
Is the whole facelift shown or only highlights?
Both — a complete full-length deep plane facelift is included alongside condensed clips, unilateral demonstrations and before-and-after case reviews.
Which gland reduction instruments are demonstrated?
Hemostat clamp, tonsil snare and bipolar cautery appear in separate cases, with capsular suturing or closure shown in some of them.
Will these videos qualify me to reduce the gland?
No — they show one surgeon’s methods and cannot replace supervised operative training in neck and gland surgery.
When is the course unlocked?
All nine modules open as soon as your order is paid and stay available for life.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Derma Academy provides the course files only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included.
